Author, educator, and historian Carl E. Kramer, PhD, will present “Clark and Harrison Counties’ Signers of the 1816 Constitution” at the November 3 program of the Southern Indiana Genealogical Society. Dr Kramer will discuss the lives and careers of the 10 men who represented Clark and Harrison Counties at the 1816 Indiana Statehood Constitutional Convention in Corydon. He will explain how they reflected the diverse origins of the convention membership, their pre-statehood roles in local and territorial politics and business activities, their views on democracy and slavery, their official positions during the Constitutional Convention, and their post-convention involvement in local and state government.
A meet and mingle with light refreshments will begin at 6:45 PM with program at 7 PM in the Applegate Room of the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library, 180 W. Spring St., New Albany, Indiana. For more information, please visit http://www.sigsweb.org/meetings or call Donna Foster at 812-923-3492.
